Born into a family of talented creatives in Upstate New York, United States, Dawn was almost certainly destined to be an artist. Dawn received art training through her formative education, particularly in high school, with such advanced classes as Drawing and Painting, Studio Art, and Portfolio, but eventually put down the pencils, charcoal, and paint to focus on other responsibilities. Despite a shift in focus, creativity continuously competed for Dawn’s attention, reminding her of the unique peace it provided. During a rather difficult era in her life, Dawn was exposed to art therapy, whereby she was able to do a deep dive into herself, unlocking the creative pieces that had been tucked away so long, and reflecting the most enduring sense of self and comfort. Dawn was encouraged to use a variety of materials, often in combination with each other, thus introducing her to the concept of mixed media art. Priorities once again shifted and it wasn’t until years later that Dawn decided to go back to school and really hone her art skills. It was at the Milan Art Institute that Dawn’s passion for textures, layers, use of multiple media and techniques became her voice and her true destiny. These unique attributes are at the heart of each piece of work Dawn creates. Sometimes bold with color choice, images, combinations of materials, she breaks the rules of more traditional ‘fine’ art, other times Dawn’s work is demonstrative of her early training, showcasing the use of one medium at a time to create just as stunning a masterpiece.
